We're back!!! We made a hard decision this summer to more or less shut down business. The reason for this was partly due to the extreme situation we ended up in when eveyone (it seemed) wanted our mics at the same time. We have since then catched up with most deliveries (with people having had to wait up to a half year before delivery...) We're now working out ways to compensate the customers that had to wait longest. When working with a new microphone project yestereday we just realised this is too much fun to just quit. We have some really cool ideas for new mics and the mics we are currently producing are so good so it would really be pity we we quit. So how did we solve the situation of being undermanned? We actually hired a guy for handling the logistics. We can now focus on engineering (the part that we like and that we are good at) and we don't have to spend our precious time packing mics or driving to the post office. Welcome to our webshop! |

Birdcage now as Matched Pairs! |
|
Friday, 07 March 2008 |
|
Due to popular demand, we're now offering the Birdcage MSP (Matched Stereo Pair)! This is the ideal companion for Blumlein (crossed eight) recordings. We match the pairs within +/- 1 dB – this guarantees the possibility to record any event with an even and realistic sound stage. The dual ribbon capsule of the Birdcage ensures 50% more output than the single ribbon capsules of other ribbons, demanding less from your preamp/mixer. Birdcage MSP in the web shop.

Microphonedeals to sell Pearl microphones |

We are proud to announce that from Jan 1st 2008 we will be offering the complete line of microphones from the classic Pearl Labs.
Pearl Microphone Laboratories was established by legendary Rune
Rosander in 1941. Current owner and head of R&D Bernt Malmqvist was
hired in 1954, and in a few years was promoted to the position of
Production Manager of the Pearl microphone range. Simultaneously
Malmqvist was involved in R&D at Pearl. Mr. Rosander became Mr.
Malmqvist 's mentor for learning every aspect of developing
microphones. In 1987, Mr. Malmqvist and his family became the proud
owners of Pearl.
At the end of the 50's, the well-known Pearl rectangular condenser
capsule was developed. Pearl has continued to improve the capsule over
the subsequent 40 years, and today it is one of the very finest
capsules available for music recording. From 1960 to 1980, Pearl
produced several different kinds of microphones such as crystal,
magneto-differential, ceramics, dynamic and condensers for customers
such as Ericsson, Tandberg, Radionette, Luxor, Swedish Radio, BBC, etc. |

Frequency Response Charts |
|
Saturday, 01 December 2007 |
|
All our mics are measured in the anechoic chamber of Pearl Microphone Laboratories (www.pearl.se). When we select our matched pairs we pair microphones not only after the on-axis frequency response but also after off-axis response. The off-axis response is very important for determining the timbre of a microphone, since all sounds recorded, even with a directional microphone, are results of both direct sound and reflected sound. We also measure sensitivity and self noise.
We know of no other manufacturer that offer this type of multi dimensional matching. Considering the price point of our products this is very unlikely to happen... |

The Bicmic MSP2 and MSP6 are here at last! Bicmic is based on a small 22mm capsule and it features state-of-the-art super quiet electronics. We like to walk along the boundaries of physics - and with the Bicmic we really achieved something extraordinary! The self-noise of the Bicmic is only 12dB(A), just 1 dB from the theoretical limit of a 22mm diaphragm!!! The recipe for this is a good capsule design paired with well thought-through electronics. The frequency response has a small raise in the topmost frequencies to give a nice open, airy sound. We used to be really fond of the old Oktava MK012. Of course that's still not a bad mic, but the Bicmic truly brings the low-cost small diaphragm mics to a completely new level. We would probably not need to be ashamed to have this compared to benchmark mics like the Neumann KM184 (with a self-noise of 13dB...) |
